How to inspect suspicious QR links

A QR code hides a destination until you decode it. Take that opportunity to inspect where it points.

Read the hostname

Use the checker to reveal the full address. In https://bank.example.com.attacker.test, the actual destination is under attacker.test. Text before an @ can also make an address misleading.

Understand the warnings

HTTP, embedded credentials, internationalized hostnames and numeric addresses deserve attention, but are not proof of abuse. HTTPS protects the connection; it does not prove the site belongs to the organization you expect.

Pause before acting

Verify unexpected payment or sign in requests through an independently known channel. Do not trust a sticker placed over a public code. This checker does not query malware or phishing databases and cannot certify a destination as safe.

Try the scanner, generator or QR checker. Your images and QR payloads are processed locally.

Install Valid QR Scan

In your browser menu, choose “Install app” or “Add to Home Screen”. On iPhone or iPad, open Share, then Add to Home Screen. In Safari on Mac, use File, then Add to Dock.

Visit once online and wait for “Offline tools ready”. Scanning and generation can then work without a connection. Opening a web destination still needs internet.
